Solar roof advice

Solar panels on slate roofs.

Slate roofs can be a good fit for solar, but the fixing and flashing details matter. E-Fix plans the mounting, weatherproofing and panel layout before work starts.

Why slate roof installs need careful planning

Slate is more fragile than many tiled roof coverings, so a solar installation should not be treated as a simple panel fit. The roof condition, slate type, batten position, fixing points and cable route all need checking before the system is agreed.

Where a new roof is being fitted, solar mounting can often be coordinated with the roofing work. That can make the result tidier because the roof hooks, battens and flashing details can be planned while the roof covering is still being built up.

Clenergy mounting and Genius slate flashing kits

E-Fix can use Clenergy mounting systems with Genius slate flashing kits where suitable. The aim is to create secure mechanical fixing while keeping the roof weatherproof around the mounting points.

  • Mounting positions are planned around the roof structure.
  • Flashing kits are used to protect the roof detail around fixings.
  • Rail layout is set out before the panels are fitted.
  • Panel positions are planned with access, shading and roof edges in mind.

What E-Fix checks before quoting

The survey looks at roof condition, roof space, shading, cable routes, consumer unit position, battery plans and whether a larger inverter or G99 application could be relevant.

For customers planning a new roof, E-Fix can discuss the timing with the roofer so the solar work is coordinated sensibly.
